Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We are committed to cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community that is welcoming and supportive for staff within the EVPA portfolio, ensuring that our people can achieve their full potential. Upholding public trust, our aim is to serve a student body that mirrors the diversity of America, with a faculty and staff that reflect the nation. Our goal is to empower everyone to excel in their work in an equitable and inclusive environment.

Vision

Foster a culture and climate of belonging and success: Build a community grounded in mutual respect where everyone feels valued, supported to do their best work, and able to advance.

Purpose

To provide valued education and engagement to cultivate a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment consistent with MSU’s institutional values prioritizing the MAUs within the Office of the Executive Vice President for Administration (EVPA) portfolio.

EVPA DEI operates under the delegated authority of Interim Vice President of Administration, Dr. Thomas Glasmacher.

Education

2024 EVPA DEI Programming

The following table details the current education and training offered to all EVPA employees and units: Infrastructure Planning and Facilities, Information Technology, Human Resources, University Procurement and Logistics, and Sustainability. The following trainings and professional development opportunities are strategically structured for employees diverse learning needs and levels of knowledge around DEI.

These trainings are offered through EBS for registration in partnership with MSU HR Organizational and Professional Development department. Departmental, team, or unit specific offerings as well as customized offerings are supported via request to evpa.dei@msu.edu.

Professional Development & Events

EVPA DEI partners with experts—both internal and external—to MSU to provide valued educational opportunities specific to the needs of the EVPA workforce. The 2024 DEI programming hosted by EVPA DEI features multiple sessions for staff and leadership around topics from the results of the 2022 Climate Survey. See the table below for more information about sessions, presenters, and topics.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are ongoing commitments that go beyond one book or training session. They aim to reduce harm and recognize that culture and people change over time. Our available resources further support these efforts, providing tools and guidance to foster an inclusive environment.

Meet the Facilitators

Gabrielle Miller

B.S. in Biological Sciences
B.S. in Liberal Studies
M.A. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Gabrielle previously served as Digital Creator Lab Manager at Grand Valley State University Libraries where they enhanced digital accessibility, increased initiatives to support digital literacy, and access to hardware/software for students. Their work focuses on how practices of Black and Native storytelling illuminates possibilities for re-grounding social justice within neoliberal landscapes.

 

De’Ondre (DJ) Hogan

B.S. in Criminal Justice with minor in Sociology

M.A. in Public Administration

DJ previously served as the DEI Director for Midland Public School District where he lead DEI strategic planning, administrative development, as well as developed education solutions for educators across the district.
