Welcome to the Office of the Executive Vice President for Administrative Services (formerly known as the Vice President's Office for Finance and Operations). Administrative Services oversees the departments of:
Human Resources: responsibilities include administrative services, employee benefits, payroll, employee relations, the family resource center, organization and employee development, and staffing services to the approximately 4,500 faculty and academic staff, 6,000 support staff, and 18,000 student employees at MSU.
IT Services:* responsibilities include providing students, faculty and staff with training, computing services, networks, databases, and other technology resources. IT Services also works in partnership with staff located within MSU’s schools, colleges and administrative divisions to provide central technology support and to unify the various information technology visions across campus.
Office of Planning and Budgets:* responsibilities include coordinating planning and budgeting processes across the university by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information about MSU. This includes data and reports relative to individual colleges and units, graduation rates, equity in athletics, safety and security, budgets and budget updates, and trends and benchmarks.
*IT Services and Planning and Budgets are jointly reporting units between Administrative Services and the Office of the Provost.
Dr. Satish Udpa, a University Distinguished Professor, was recently named Executive Vice President for Administrative Services, effective March 18, 2013. "Satish Udpa is an enormously respected leader and a terrific collaborator," MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon said. "His ability to lead and emulate a high-performance culture within the college that yielded concrete results has made him the best candidate for this position, and we now look at how best to infuse a culture of even higher expectations - of ourselves and of each other - throughout our entire enterprise."
Dr. Udpa served as the Dean of the College of Engineering and Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at MSU before his current appointment. Prior to joining MSU in 2001, Dr. Udpa was the Whitney Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University. He was on the faculty at Colorado State University prior to his stint at Iowa State University.
Udpa’s research interests span the broad area of materials characterization and nondestructive evaluation (NDE). Work done by him to date in the area includes an extensive repertoire of forward models for simulating physical processes underlying several inspection techniques. He has also been involved in the development of system-based and model-based inverse solutions for defect and material property characterization. His interests have expanded in recent years to include the development of noninvasive tools for clinical applications, such as new electromagnetic-acoustic (EMAT) methods for detecting single-leg separation failures in artificial heart valves as well as microwave imaging and ablation therapy systems.
He has published extensively, holds several patents, and is the technical editor of the Electromagnetic Nondestructive Testing Handbook published by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing. He serves as the editor of the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics and is the regional editor of the International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics. Dr. Udpa is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the Indian Society for Nondestructive Testing and the Engineering Society of Detroit. He is a Full member of the Academia NDT International. Dr. Udpa also served as the permanent secretary of the World Federation of NDE Centers from 1998 to 2003.
