Accomplishments, Recommendations, and Reports

The Women’s Advisory Committee for Support Staff has been instrumental in the development of the following:

  • Recommended the development of the ‘green folder’ – a resource guide to help and support students & staff
  • Host annual spring forum attended by over 400 women support staff
  • Established the Jack Breslin distinguished staff awards
  • Involved in survey development (dependent care, work climate)
  • Recommended the mentoring program and participatory management initiative
  • Developed MSU recruitment brochure to distribute in targeted locations in an effort to recruit diverse populations and women
  • WACSS has an appointed member that serves on the Sexual Violence Advisory Subcommittee
  • Provided Computer Access and Training (CAT) for labor employees (RHS, IPF, U Sv)
  • Worked with ASMSU, RHA to provide free emergency menstrual hygiene products for students on campus
  • Enhanced and marketed ContactMSU 355-1855
  • Created the green light phone emergency phone system
  • Conducted campus-wide safety tours, addressing vegetation overgrowth and lighting concerns
  • Established private nursing space for mothers
  • Recommended enhancements to safety programs (mandatory training, debriefs, alert systems, hand washing education, and increased availability of Automated External Defibrillators)
  • Conducted analysis of terminations and retirements
  • Hosted mini-forums for 2nd and 3rd shift employees, Extension, and Grand Rapids employees
  • Encouraged identification of employees (name badge)
  • Support and sponsor TIAA-Cref Financial workshops and health fairs
  • Support off-campus employee engagement (use of zoom, off-campus benefit fairs, Health4u & HR programming)
  • Supported and helped to establish supervisory training programs
  • Continue to engage in conversations regarding parental leave for parents, including those that are adopting
  • Held resource fair in conjunction with Spring Forum
  • Developed listing of resource information related to awards, compensation, health, safety, benefits, and professional development opportunities at www.wacss.msu.edu/resources
